国際日本空手道協会について
Founder Sadashige Kato left behind the lesson: “We should strive to eliminate discrimination against poverty, race, religion and beliefs. To train karate is to create and be part of such an ideal society."
We will continue to share his lesson and to work towards the realization of the ideal society that Kato Shihan envisaged.
On 16th April, 2020, Kato Sadashige Shihan passed away.
Karatedo has developed uniquely through various individuals over a long period of time. More than 70 million people in 193 countries around the world now train karate. It has been 100 years since Gichin Funakoshi, the founder of the Shotokan style, came to Tokyo from Okinawa and introduced karate for the first time in mainland Japan. It has been 55 years since Sadashige Kato Shihan moved to Europe to promote karate. We, as the succesors of Kato Shihan's legacy, have a responsibility to develop his legacy and pass it to the next generation.
We, the officials and instructors of IJKA, always consider how karate can contribute to society, and we continue to take on the challenges of creating new values for karate that align with the new era.
Kato Shihan was born on July 22, 1943 in Kochi prefecture. He went on to Takushoku University and trained under Masatoshi Nakayama, the founder of Shotokan-ryu. From 1965-1966, he spent time in Germany with Kanazawa sensei. He is a pioneer in the karate world and lived in England for more than 50 years, working to popularize and develop karate all over the world. Kato Shihan learned many techniques from the legendary masters, Master Masatoshi Nakayama, Master Hirokazu Kanazawa, Master Keinosuke Enoeda, and Master Tetsuhiko Asai. He infused the techniques he learned from them with his own techniques. He then established the International Japan Karatedo Association (IJKA). He passed away on April 16, 2020. He was a man of humor, love and joy, and a great master loved by people all over the world, not only as a legendary karate master, but also as a person.
